Happy St. Patrick's Day and a little history

We are ALL Irish for a day right?   Love this holiday...fun, fun, fun!  enjoy the parades, the green beer(not for me anymore), Irish coffee, Bailey's,  ...hmmmm, is there a pattern here?   I'm not much of a drinker anymore.  It's fun to watch all of the people though that do.

On my facebook page - Jewelry Gems - we had a contest where I asked everyone to submit some facts about St. Patrick's Day.  Here is what the winner had to say about this famous holiday!

Kristi Rein
St Patrick was the most commonly recognized patron saint of Ireland. St p day also commemorates the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. St p day was made an official feast day in early 17th century and has gradually become a celebration of the Irish culture in general. This day is characterized by the wearing of green, lifting of Lenten food restriction, attending church and drinking of alcohol. It is probably the most celebrated saints day in the world.    GREAT INFO DONNA!

Here is a bit more of info for ye.....And  the reason why we celebrate on March 17...that is the day of the Festival of Patrick in Dublin, Ireland, the inaugural parade of the The Knights of St. Patrick; March 17, 1783.

Saint Patrick was born in the 4th century in Roman Britian into a wealthy family.  He was kidnapped when he was 16 and taken to Ireland, but escaped and returned home.  In 432, he returned to Ireland as a bishop to convert the Irish to become Christians.  One of his teaching methods included using the SHAMROCK to explain the Christian doctrine of the Trinity to the Irish people.

After 30 years,he died  ......March 17, 461.

Have a wonderful day - be safe! and be sure to wear some GREEN lia sophia jewelry!   :-)
